Welcome to Year 2                                                                                                                                        

This year, the class will be taught by Mrs Siddall and Miss Pickersgill.

We have some exciting topics to cover with a focus on developing our basic skills in maths and phonics.

Our first text in English is ‘The Bear and the Piano’ for which we will be developing our persuasive writing skills whilst ensuring we are applying our phonic skills. In maths, we are building on our existing knowledge using practical resources such as Numicon and Base 10 to deepen our understanding of place value, addition and subtraction.

In art, we are learning about the artist Kandinsky. We will be looking at some of his work and applying these techniques to create our own Kandinsky inspired art work.

Our science unit is Animals including Humans, in which we will be learning about the characteristics of different animal groups and classifying them accordingly.

This term in geography, we are learning about London, comparing it to Birtley and finding out about physical and human features of places.

Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday and children are welcome to wear their PE kit to school on these days.

Home learning is important so please ensure children are accessing Numbots and reading regularly at home as well as at school to help them develop these essential skills. Reading books will be changed every Monday and across school, children are expected to read at least three times per week.
